Usually I avoid cooking half boiled eggs. Why? Because it’s quite time consuming. First you need to boil enough water to cover the eggs. Then you need to wait for the eggs to cook. Plus it needs quite a lot of tender loving care. If you wait too long, you get hard boiled eggs. If you’re impatient, you’d have to eat them raw, turn them into an omelette, or throw them away.
Lately I found that I CAN have perfect half boiled eggs by boiling just half a cup of water. Here’s how it’s done…
Equipment:
- A pot with it’s cover (a good seal is necessary).
- Water
- 3 Eggs (room temperature)
Method:
- Place eggs and water into pot.
- Cover the pot and bring the water to a boil. (It’s important that the pot is covered so it captures the steam)
- When you can see visible steam coming out of the covered pot, turn the heat off.
- Wait 6-7 minutes for the eggs to cook.
Why this method is better? You use less energy, water, and time to cook them eggs.
You may ask, “why so cheapskate? Water only what!” Haih… Petrol price increase ledi you know. Ubah gaya hidup mah…

Bro, you can also pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds on High. Make sure you poke a hole to not make them mini grenades.
Or you can always have them poached. Same taste, less time. (Viva Egg Benedict!)
